Grab those citronella candles and bug spray, this week we’re talking about giant, alien mosquito movie… MOSQUITO!!! Directed by Gary Jones and starring Rachel Loiselle, Gunnar Hansen & Ron Asheton as strangers brought together to do battle with killer mosquitoes. Watch out for the probosis!
Hey Sis, Uncle Ted is coming to visit for this week’s episode. We’re talking about Eric Red’s 1996 werewolf movie BAD MOON! Starring Mariel Hemingway, Michael Pare & Mason Gamble this creature feature is pretty good with great gore and practical effects but very short and falls victim to some pretty bad dialogue. We enjoy it! We talk the movie, a little about production and then discuss Eric Red’s legal woes. Sis, it’s a good time sis. Sis!
White socks, board shorts, off-brand Speedo’s, lots and lots of slow motion and the hardest working college doctor around… this week we’re talking about David Decoteau’s LEECHES! Directed by Mr. Coteau and written by Fangoria’s Michael Gingold, this movie(?) stars Michael Lutz, Josh Henderson and Matt Twining as members of a college swim team getting sucked on by steroid-loving leeches. It is a doozy. We talk the movie and then play a game of ‘Decoteau Plot or Not’ where Mitch has to guess if a plot is a Christopher original or a genuine Decoteau film.
We’re back and communing with the spirits of dead children via Kevin Tenney’s WITCHBOARD! This mid-eighties supernatural spook story stars Tawny Kitten, Todd Allen and Stephen Nichols as a love triangle dealing with a pesky entity terrorizing them. We talk the movie, the age difference between the lead actors and more! Come get progressively entrapped!
This week we’re dipping our toes into a Bay of Blood aka Twitch of the Death Nerve aka Carnage aka MANY THINGS. Seriously, this photo-slasher has a lot of alternate titles. Directed by Mario Bava and starring Claudine Auger, Brigitte Skay, Chris Avram and Laura Betti, Bay of Blood heavily influenced slashers to come. It’s a kooky, but enjoyable ride!
It might be May but we’re still thinking about the winter months and taking another stab at creating a DnD-inspired horror, S’NO’W WAY OUT!!! When a group of travellers all congregate at a diner/motel in the middle of nowhere after being forced to stop due to a huge snow storm, they find the previous group and employees dead. Can they survive the creature that just wants to kill them? Is that so bad? It’s a long but fun one, and if this isn’t your cup of tea we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming next week!
We’re headed to Castle D’Orsino this week to talk about Stuart Gordon’s Castle Freak! This film reunites genre legends Barbara Crampton and Jeffrey Combs as Susan and John Reilly with Jessica Dolalrhide as their blind daughter Rebecca and Jonathan Fuller as the monstrous Giorgio D’Orsino. John Reilly inherits a castle in Italy from his recently deceased Aunt that isn’t as empty as it seems. This gothic tale gave us some serious Hammer Horror vibes and we really loved it!
This week we’re talking about one of Christopher’s favourites, SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II!!! This sequel from writer/director Deborah Brock stars Crystal Bernard, Kimberly MacArthur, Heidi Kozak Haddad and Juliette Cummins as a girl band spending the weekend at a condo when Courtney’s dreams start bleeding into reality and they’re stalked by Rockabilly babe/Driller Killer Atanas Ilitch. Slumber Party 2 is a quirky, music-forward follow-up to the original that may not be for everybody. Love the one you’re with, baby!
Big hair, electric guitars and very little sense… this episode we’re talking about 1984 hair metal slasher ROCKTOBER BLOOD! Written by Ferd & Beverly Sebastian with Beverly also in the director’s chair Rocktober Blood stars their son Tracy Sebastian (or Tray Loren as he’s credited here) as Billy Eye, a seemingly(but not really) undead maniac singer with his sights on revenge! Rounding out the cast are Donna Scoggins as Headmistress’ new lead singer Lynn and Nigel Benjamin as band manager Chris, as well as performing the vocals for Billy. This thing is a mess. We share our spoiler-free thoughts on the new Pet Sematary, talk about the movie and then Christopher explains how Nigel Benjamin ended up lending his vocals.
This episode we’re going camping and you’re all invited! We’re talking great backwoods slasher JUST BEFORE DAWN (1981). This little gem is directed by Jeff Lieberman and stars Deborah Benson, Gregg Henry and Jamie Rose as ill-fated campers heading into the Oregon wilderness for a fun weekend of spontaneous dancing and crossing rope bridges. It has an eerie score, some beautiful cinematography and one of the BEST Final Girl confrontations ever!
Electrocution by bed, drowning by sewage, bathcid and poorly stored hazardous chemicals can only mean that we're talking about SLAUGHTER HIGH! This April Fool's Day themed slasher has a trio of Writers/Directors in Mark Ezra, George Dugdale and Peter Litten and stars a 36-year old Caroline Munro as a high schooler and Simon Scuddamore as revenge-seeking nerd Marty Rantzen. We talk the movie and its production, learn about Director Peter Litten's ghost movie and as always find out how it Jamie Lee's.
WARNING: SPOILERS! We finally reviewed another new release! In this edition of DFB Shorts we do a stream-of-consciousness style thing about our thoughts on Jordan Peele’s Us starring Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph & Evan Alex!
